Happily Single

First I want to say that this Blogging has become very important to me and I received my first "You go girl" email today from someone I don't even know!  I promise to develop a little more structure where these Blogs are concerned as I go along!!  I just want to say you're interest and continued support means a lot to me!  Be sure to hit "Like" on the I don't just "Like it", I "LOVE IT"!!!  page on facebook for more awesome quotes posted by awesome people and reposted for you!  Thanks again...

So here's the thing, I was sitting at my computer today, thinking about what I wanted to share with everyone.  All these other random thoughts came to my mind; what's for dinner, what do I want to do with the kids tonight, what's on TV, etc.. but the one and only thought that survived and made it to my Blog today was the awesome knowledge that I can do just about anything I want, and this is an awesome feeling!

After two failed marriages and countless relationships that went anywhere from 4 months to 5 years; I was what you'd consider a "serial relationship" person.  For the first time in my adult life, I don't have any "gaps" to fill, or a pressing need to reconnect with someone in a hurry.  I love God, and I'm totally and incandescently in love with myself so this time, there are no gaps!  Now keep in mind, I believe healthy humans appreciate and enjoy healthy sex lives, and I am not immune, hell at the ripe old age of 41, I don't just like sex, I LOVE IT!!!; this is why taking this time out, the longest period of time I have ever been without love in my life, has been so rejuvenating!  I'm so enjoying the freedom of my "single-dom" that dating has begun to feel like... like pressure! LOL!!!

In my opinion dating, overall, SUCKS!  You're story, which you learn to deliver like the "boiler-plate" comment it turns into; is recited time and time again to a new audience and becomes less and less interesting every time you hear them coming out of your mouth... You ever just want to write it down and hand it over to your date?  I know, to much like a resume'/ job interview, right?  But isn't it?  Aren't you vying for the position of love interest?  The only thing you really can't determine is if it's forever, or for right now... like I said, dating sucks.  But, now that I'm not "pressed", maybe dating sucks a little more?  When I'm asked out I accept... depending, but for the most part, I just want to say ""I'm good!" lol!

Don't get me wrong,  I cannot wait to be in love again.  I know that this person will be everything God intended me to have in a Man.  He will be indulgent, and so will I and we will thank God everyday for blessing us and delivering us to one another, but in the meantime...  ;-)

I'm getting to know who I am and I'm loving myself more and more everyday.  I feel like Patrick Swayze in Ghost, when his business is finished on this earth and he's about to take his place in Heaven he tells Molly "... all the love you have inside, you take it with you.." And that is exactly the way I feel.  I have no ill will, animosity or regrets about the Men I've loved and lost...  The fact that I am so happy now clearly means that I wasn't supposed to be with them.. and, honestly, how could I?  In order to be with any one of them, I'd have to feel at least half of what I'm feeling for myself right now, and that just wasn't the case. Knowing what I know now will make my next relationship so much easier, more loving; but, and I hate to write this out loud, I LOVE BEING A LITTLE SELFISH RIGHT NOW!!!   I love my bed, I love my bedroom, I love my bathroom and, gosh darn it, I don't want to share them at the moment!  Does this make me a bad person, or happily single?  :-)   Be well...

Threads

"There is just something about the female frame.... *SMH and lickin my lips* Lawd.... If we could just get y'all to shut the heck up and act right... Y'all would be so_____..." Jason Barnes

Last night I read Jason's status and laughed out loud, for real, it was so funny!!   I chimed in with my own "tongue and cheek" comment and was looking forward to all the playful banter on the topic that was sure to come.  Boy was I wrong!   Let's face it women, sometimes we take it there and it's just so damn unnecessary.  I was ready to play, but had to mourn this thread's potential instead.  The comments that proceeded mine seemed to take a life of their own and what could have been entertainment, turned into a platform, or a soapbox session, where some of his other "friends" went in with comments like; "Why would you want someone who doesn't have an opinion"? , "Why would you want a doormat?",  "Get a blow up doll", "Women  are honest and speak the truth.." etc...  Damn ladies , really?  Jason did not vilify and/or disrespect women with this status; he merely spoke his mind and most of the women who chimed in with their nonsense just proved his point.  Stop being so obtuse and see it for what it was, humorous and REAL!   When I read all the comments that proceeded my  "I have a "mute" button... Lol :-)"   I completely understood what he was talking about and wanted you all to shut the heck up and act right too, or better yet, DELETE YOURSELVES!!!

Dang Ladies, sometimes we can be a real drag!  Why can't we hear, or in this case, read the truth?  Jason even took the time to give us, as a gender, an awesome compliment before he hit us with it.  And, to soften the blow, he wrapped it in a pretty little package along with his very unique brand of comedic flair and some of you still couldn't decipher the message.   Instead of constantly going in for the "kill"  and trying to admonish MEN, why don't we just listen?  Reading in between the lines, especially the funny ones, can reveal those subliminal, and in Jason's case, not so subliminal (LOL), messages we tend to overlook because instead of LISTENING we're too busy paying attention to all the wrong things...

I liken the "hi-jacking" of Jason's thread, as "The Takeover".  Social networking is hard enough without people transposing their unrelated personal issues onto someone else's fun.  If over analyzing is a pain in the neck interpersonally, believe me when I type, it's a freaking nightmare online!!  My rule when chiming in on other people "Random Thoughts" is to respect the creator of the conversation, not read so much into it, and simply keep it light.  It's really not that serious!  :-)    Be well...

George Steinbrenner, King of New York

I woke up this morning and turned on Channel 12 news, turned on my laptop, checked my email.  I logged onto facebook to see if there were any new awesomely awesome posts to share on I don't just "Like it", I "LOVE IT"!!! and was saddened when the Breaking News hit.  George Stienbrenner, Owner of the New York Yankees, dead at 80 of an apparent Massive Heart Attack.  I immediately started to post this as my status update.  By the time I hit enter, there were several statuses delivering the news as well.  I'm not a sports fan and baseball isn't my thing, but I believe in teamwork and sportsmanship, and I could tell from all the facebook posts that George Steinbrenner's death impacted people.  I came downstairs and saw my son sleeping on the sofa, woke him up (on purpose) and told him the news.  He shot up and said "OH NOOOOO"!  and I did a double take because I wasn't sure if my 20 year old was pulling my leg or not.  What I saw in my son's eyes was real and in that moment I was beginning to understand how "BIG" George Steinbrenner's death was as well.  He immediately turned on the TV and I watched his face when ESPN confirmed what I already told him.  I never knew he was such a baseball fan and I asked him why is that?  He told me he's not really a fan of baseball, he's a fan of "The Boss", George Steinbrenner.

I don't need to write a bio and incorporate dozens of little factoids about this man on my blog that I'd be studying while I type because that's not what I don't just "Like it", I "LOVE IT"!!! is really about.  Had I developed an interest in all things baseball and more importantly the NY Yankees, who I route for when the Mets aren't in contention, then this would be an entirely different read and besides, I'm not that disingenuous!  ;-)  .  I will say that the man was pretty impressive.  When George Steinbrenner, along with several other investors, purchased the Yankees in the 70's for a little under 10 million dollars from CBS, the man knew what he was doing!  He was, arguably, the smartest man in ownership history, with an understanding of how important the media/television industry was and how to use it to his organizations advantage.  During the past three years however, his health had begun to deteriorate and he relinquished control of the Yankees to his sons Hal and Hank.   I'll sum it up with this quote from I don't just "Like it", I "LOVE IT"!!!
Be well...

RIP to George Steinbrenner! I became a Yankees fan in 76 right when he restored them back to prominence. I hated him as an owner for while, but my feelings changed cuz in the end he made the Yankees great again. He was a hard ass, but he was smart & humble enough to evolve to do what was best. Take lessons Dan Gilbert, & Al Davis. He wasn't perfect, but he did it right. Marc Howard

Out the box...

You dig me,
I dig you back,
I'm feeling this, it's just getting started,
You possess everything my ex lacks.
You're married,
I'm not,
What box do I fit in?
You say you need a lover who knows how to work that thing.
You're married to a woman who, according to you, can't "bling-bling"
Sensual, hot, soft and juicy are synonyms describing me when fully aroused.
Shit, these things come naturally for some, you feel what I'm talking about?
If giving you all I have helps you reach your desired sexual destination, will you be the "homey-lover-friend"
I want in my life and repay me with tenderness, respect and dedication?
Or, am I to be one on a list of fools who's heard you same tired-ass declaration?
What box do I fit in?
I imagine you expected this would go on for years,
with the right woman who understood early on she would get no play with her tears.
I was shortchanged when I complained, this is when you began to diminish,
But it's you... all you "Boo" who was, is and will always be, finished.
What box do I fit in?
What box indeed?
You can't compartmentalize this human being,
I'm coming all out the box, crossing over all four sides of that perfect square you aspired to put me in.
That small stifling box that was supposed to represent me and all my glory...
Not now.... Not ever....

Loving yourself is actually the point and this I hope to convey in my own very unique way!

Being a 41 year old single parent comes with it's challenges, but knowingly walking into roadblocks or dangerous situations that aren't good for me, or my family is plain nonsensical.  Although I cannot personally relate to what individuals go through during this journey in particular, I do understand.  I am in no way judging anyone and their choices, as they pertain to becoming involved with men and/or women who are already in committed relationships.  In my poem I simply illustrate a very real aspect of the expectations married people have, and what we should expect for ourselves... MORE!!!  It took me a while to get where I am in my life, and that's happy!  With prayer and positivity, I learned that I am deserving of all the wonderful things God has in store for me, quite simply, I am Blessed!  The inclination to jeopardize these Blessings appear in daily challenges; right and wrong, mini decisions that culminate into final decisions that cannot be undone and self doubt.  But trust me, I didn't always "Like" me, so when I fell incandescently in "LOVE" with myself,  my value system began to change and allowing myself to be DEVALUED was no longer an option.  I've been force feeding these revelations to my daughter, your daughters and every one else; with the help of my facebook friends who graciously allow me to post their wonderful comments on my page,
I don't just "Like it", I "LOVE IT"!!!.  These positive sentiments that encourage and promote healthy choices, as well as life altering affirmations, help... take it from me!  :-)  I strongly encourage all who read this blog to check it out... You never know whose words of wisdom, hope and prayer may change your life too!  There are hundreds of posts, and below are a few of my favorites that I want to share with you today.  You'll find many more thought provoking, uplifting and funny posts on I don't just "Like it", I "LOVE IT"!!! too, just go to the link and hit Like!  Be well and blessed everyone...

Lebron is South Beach bound!!!

Wow, Lebron is really being vilified tonight... DAY-UM!!! Alright everyone, don't hold back, tell me how you really feel!!! SMH!

July 9, 2010 12:50pm

I'm not the biggest sports fan, but I try to stay up on certain things, for conversational purposes mind you, but the information I retain is enough to get me over, especially if I'm conversing with a Man!  During this LeBron James Free Agent business, "basketball" could have been a sport you never even heard of, but, due to the frenzy, would have been as well versed as many, waiting for the big announcement.

And so it's Miami, where LeBron makes 1/3 of the Basketball trifecta (Wade and Bosh make the other half) that LeBron considers a guarantee to the Finals and ultimately, the Championship that has eluded "King" James during his 6 year tenure in Cleveland.  LeBron went on to say that his mother was instrumental in encouraging him to do what he needed to do for himself, and Miami was his choice, period.   Donnie Walsh, President of Basketball Operations for the NY Knicks said this, “We are disappointed that LeBron James did not pick the New York Knicks, but we respect his decision.”  I agree, but what would have been the admiral thing to do?  In an already shaky economy, LeBron's departure equals devastation for Cleveland.  Yes, there are going to be a lot of closed bars in the Cleveland area soon, that's for sure.  Another question was that of loyalty.  According to his "old" fans, he doesn't have any...  It's unfortunate that he's become public enemy #1 as far as his former loyal fans and his community for the past 6 years are concerned.  This is a question that I posed on facebook, staying in Cleveland may have been the admiral, or loyal, thing to do, but now I'm not so sure staying in Cleveland would have been the best thing, for LeBron.

At 25 years old, Lebron was ready to "fly the coop".   His 6 years in Cleveland were, arguably, his best years; what exactly did he have left for that team?  Like a child that leaves home, Lebron is ready to see the world, do different things and date hot attractive women from Miami!  Like my friend Gina said; "go smoke those cohibas, play spades and dominoes with Trina, Rick Ross and Trick Daddy, ride jet ski's at night butt naked, buy a house on star island and LIVE!!"  How can we hate on the young Man for wanting to live?!

The controversy that still surrounds his former team mate (West) and his Mother notwithstanding, young dude wanted a change and he's entitled.  Cleveland's gross display of burning his jersey upon hearing the news that he would not be returning is a disgrace.  This man worked HARD for Cleveland for years and was instrumental, no, responsible for the great strides in NBA history that team has seen in YEARS since his arrival 6 years ago, can he get some love for that?  Dan Gilbert, Owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers must have imagined he was back in time and actually OWNED LeBron, based on his reaction to LeBron not coming back.  He should have taken the high road and wished LeBron well on all future endeavors for all that young man did for his franchise..  What an idiot!

‎Carlos Wallace, President of Sol-Caritas had this to say; "Well damn.....I guess Bird, Magic and Jordan should have formed a SUPER TEAM and earned 10 rings together instead of competing against eachother like REAL CHAMPIONS."  This comment resonates the most for me.. it would have been awesome to see him compete, instead of create this "no lose" situation with 2 other awesome marquee players..  I just hope the boys play nice and share!  Here's to an exciting 2010-2011 season and to the health and well being of our NBA hero's who are out there making it happen for their teammates and us, their fans... be well.
